These fluffy, pillowy New Orleans-style beignets are deep-fried to perfection and dusted with powdered sugar!

Ingredients:

For the Dough:

  • ¾ cup warm milk (about 110°F)
  • ¼ cup warm water (110°F)
  • 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg (room temperature)
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract

For Frying:

  • Vegetable oil (for deep frying)

For Serving:

  • Powdered sugar, for dusting

Instructions:

1️⃣ Activate the Yeast

  • In a bowl, mix warm milk, warm water, yeast, and sugar.
  • Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.

2️⃣ Make the Dough

  • Add egg, melted butter, vanilla, and salt to the yeast mixture.
  • Gradually mix in flour, stirring until a dough forms.
  • Knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Cover and let rise for 1 hour, until doubled in size.

3️⃣ Roll & Cut

  • Roll out dough on a floured surface to ¼-inch thickness.
  • Cut into 2-inch squares using a knife or pizza cutter.

4️⃣ Fry Until Golden

  • Heat oil to 350°F (175°C) in a deep pot.
  • Fry 2-3 beignets at a time for 1-2 minutes per side, until golden brown.
  • Drain on paper towels.

5️⃣ Dust & Serve

  • Generously sprinkle powdered sugar on top.
  • Serve warm with coffee or hot chocolate!
