These fluffy, pillowy New Orleans-style beignets are deep-fried to perfection and dusted with powdered sugar!
Ingredients:
For the Dough:
- ¾ cup warm milk (about 110°F)
- ¼ cup warm water (110°F)
- 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg (room temperature)
- 3 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
- ½ tsp salt
- 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
For Frying:
- Vegetable oil (for deep frying)
For Serving:
- Powdered sugar, for dusting
Instructions:
1️⃣ Activate the Yeast
- In a bowl, mix warm milk, warm water, yeast, and sugar.
- Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
2️⃣ Make the Dough
- Add egg, melted butter, vanilla, and salt to the yeast mixture.
- Gradually mix in flour, stirring until a dough forms.
- Knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Cover and let rise for 1 hour, until doubled in size.
3️⃣ Roll & Cut
- Roll out dough on a floured surface to ¼-inch thickness.
- Cut into 2-inch squares using a knife or pizza cutter.
4️⃣ Fry Until Golden
- Heat oil to 350°F (175°C) in a deep pot.
- Fry 2-3 beignets at a time for 1-2 minutes per side, until golden brown.
- Drain on paper towels.
5️⃣ Dust & Serve
- Generously sprinkle powdered sugar on top.
- Serve warm with coffee or hot chocolate!
