Ingredients
For the Meatballs:
- 1 lb (450 g) ground beef or pork (or a mix)
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 large egg
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
- 1/4 cup milk
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup onion, finely diced
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- 1/4 tsp dried oregano or Italian seasoning
For the Sauce:
- 1 cup ketchup
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp smoked paprika (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or foil for easy cleanup.
- Make the Meatballs:
- In a large bowl, combine the ground meat, breadcrumbs, egg, Parmesan cheese (if using), milk, minced garlic, onion, salt, pepper, paprika, and oregano.
- Mix gently with your hands until just combined. Do not overmix to avoid tough meatballs.
- Roll the mixture into small 1-inch balls (about 24-30 meatballs).
- Bake: Place the meatballs on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until lightly browned and cooked through.
- Prepare the Sauce:
- In a medium saucepan, combine the ketchup, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and smoked paprika.
- Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the sauce is smooth and bubbly.
- Combine:
- Add the baked meatballs to the saucepan with the sauce. Gently stir to coat the meatballs evenly.
- Serve:
- Transfer the meatballs to a serving dish or keep them warm in a slow cooker.
- Garnish with chopped parsley for extra color if desired.
- Serve with cocktail picks for easy grabbing!
